My Name is Maria Casillas. I am heavily impacted by mass incarceration because I am formerly incarcerated and have many loved ones currently in the system.
I am a mother, a former healthcare worker, advocate and activist.
I believe we all commit mistakes at one point in our lives and we should all have a second chance to do right equally.
I am a graduate of the Institute of Impacted Leaders and became a Leadership Fellow with Initiate Justice. After my fellowship, I became a full-time Community Organizer for Los Angeles Area. My role is to help and educate our Outside and Inside Organizers on how policy and justice reform works, what our rights are as family members with incarcerated loved ones, and how we can be advocates in our community.
